Critical Role Season Four Reveals the Warriors Group

From the very beginning of Campaign 4, recently appointed game master the talented storyteller has kept fans guessing with extensive world-building, a wide array of characters, and a exciting storyline featuring celestial beings, demons, and malevolent powers growing in power within Dol-Makjar.

Heads-up: Key plot points for the latest installment of this adventure follow below.

The Combat-Oriented Party Revealed

The latest chapter finished on a huge suspense moment and introduced the premier party of heroes who will separate from the central cast to undertake their separate journey, apart from the other two tables.

The combat-focused team consists of Teor Pridesire (portrayed by the voice actor), the nimble rogue (Laura), Tyranny (Whitney), Wicander Halovar (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan (Robbie).

The Reason for Division

Given a large ensemble, it was obvious from the beginning that maintaining everyone at a single group would be unworkable.

This explains, the opening chapters of the new season serve as an Overture, intertwining the personal journeys before splitting into three distinct groups: Warriors, Schemers, and Explorers.

Characteristics of the Soldiers Table

According to the DM, the combat-focused party is for adventurers who are drawn to a typically action-packed combat and conflict-driven gameplay experience where diplomatic options are few and far between.

At first glance, figures such as the squeamish cleric Wicander Halovar might look out of place, but the actions of episode 3 demonstrate why these particular heroes are best suited for the Soldiers table.

Motivations for Departure

For one thing, the party has a clear idea where to go next after a intense first encounter with the antagonists.

A former ally of the deceased character—whose death initiated the narrative’s action—used the foes for his personal gain, breaking into the hidden lair, assaulting the character, and taking all the magical artifacts to sell off.

Casimir then paid off his debts and escaped to a Halovar stronghouse in the northern region, beyond Dol-Makjar, with Cyd close behind.

Personal Motivations

Secondly, each adventurer has a personal reason to depart Dol-Makjar:

  • Thimble, as the close ally and best friend, seeks vengeance.
  • The adventurer is familiar with the region and advises that it is a hostile place.
  • Tyranny and The healer, having resisted his relatives’ demands to kill Teor and instead freed him, have no other options.
  • But, their status as important members in House Halovar could enable the party enter locations they typically wouldn’t be able to.
  • Furthermore, The grateful character vowed a unbreakable promise to Wicander for his rescue and will now accompany him everywhere.

Pursued by Authorities

Finally, all of them are sought by the authorities that govern Dol-Makjar for a variety of reasons, making lingering locally too risky:

  • Thimble and Kattigan are known criminals.
  • The strong figure and The healer betrayed House Halovar and the horde of evil beings they are aligned with.
  • The target is marked for death by the family.

This results in them few options but to travel to the remote area in quest for Casimir.

What’s Next?

From the latest episode’s Cooldown, we learn that the combat party will be absent the following episode, leaving the remaining eight players to round up the Questers and Strategists tables.

Audiences can expect learning which players will be in which group in Campaign 4’s last Overture episode, released on next week.
