The Gaming Giant Hires Popular Battle Royale Lead to Boost Troubled Action Game Project Ethos

The renowned publisher has secured a seasoned producer from Respawn Entertainment to direct the development team at 31st Union, which is currently working on the anticipated third-person action-packed title known as this innovative game.

Management Transition Comes After Mixed Reception

Brinkman steps into the role of studio head at 31st Union following the dismissal of previous head the ex-Sledgehammer Games executive, who was reportedly let go due to the game's underwhelming unveiling last fall.

Recently, 2K president a key figure notified team members about this decision through an internal memo, which highlighted that playtesting had revealed the necessity for a more defined vision.

Ismailer expressed that the developers is now refining the project with a renewed focus, aiming to address community desires.

A Pattern of Key Acquisitions

This announcement follows a comparable move taken by the publisher in the summer, when they brought on Rod Fergusson from Blizzard to work on the beloved franchise development group.

Dear Team—

I know you all just finished your meeting - I hope you’re as enthusiastic as I am with the positive developments. Last time I shared you all a update, I mentioned the following: “I believe in this crew. You all are some of the most driven and creative developers we have had the chance to work with - and we’re looking forward for that partnership to persist.”

With your dedication and adaptability, especially over the last year, you consistently demonstrate that.

The gamer responses from last fall’s the game playtest was informative. It validated the potential of a roguelike shooter but made clear we still had refinements needed. It revealed the necessity for a clearer vision.

It’s been inspiring to see how far you’ve progressed. You accepted the input to consideration and reimagined the title with a renewed goal - one that’s ready to achieve its potential to our players.

The trust in Project ETHOS strengthens every day. To further the incredible development you’ve made, I am thrilled to announce Ben Brinkman as the new Studio Head of 31st Union. Following a period of conversations, he officially joins us on Monday, October 20.

Ben’s guidance and experience in the competitive gaming field is extensive, having devoted the past decade and a half creating and leading some of the most recognizable series in gaming, such as Call of Duty: Black Ops, and most recently, Apex Legends.

I invite you all in welcoming Ben next week. We are all eager to continue observing the development of the game in the time to ahead.

The upcoming game was unveiled in last year together with a public demo. At the time, 31st Union described the game as a "free-to-play, third-person perspective roguelike hero shooter and an innovative step forward on the category."

"Build your perfect run—or die trying—in this 3rd-person action shooter! Customize your character in real-time to fit your unique tactics," the official summary states. "Challenge the opponents with fresh skills, stakes, and challenges that change every round. Will you withdraw carefully with your valuable rewards? Or take a risk, put it on the line, and pray your team can achieve the highest spot? The decision is yours."

The game does not have an official debut schedule or platforms, but enthusiasts can expect additional details as creation progresses.
